Weight reduction and internal changes

The new laptop is expected to weigh less than current models that start at 3.4 pounds for the 14-inch version. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman states this weight loss comes from miniaturizing parts and rearranging components inside the chassis.

Chipset and release timeline

The device will feature existing higher-end M5 chips rather than the upcoming M7 processors scheduled for early 2027. This release coincides with the first iPad mini to similarly feature OLED technology.

Leadership shift and design focus

John Ternus recently took over as Apple's CEO and previously worked as a hardware engineer. Gurman notes that rebuilding design teams is one of his first priorities under this new leadership.
