Apple moves iPhone 18 Pro Face ID camera under display
Apple has placed the infrared camera for its new iPhone 18 Pro under the top-left corner of the OLED panel to make room for a smaller Dynamic Island.
New pixel layout enables face recognition
The display features modified pixels with larger gaps in the top left area. This specific arrangement allows infrared light to pass through so Face ID can function properly. A serious zoom camera is required to see these gaps without assistance.
Dynamic Island shrinks for more content
The new Dynamic Island is smaller than the original design found on previous models. It can now display three Live Activities at once instead of just two. This change required moving the infrared sensor away from the island area.
Visible discoloration is not a defect
Users may occasionally notice odd discoloration on the left side of their clock screen. This visual effect results from the new pixel layout rather than a hardware fault. Apple confirmed that this appearance is normal for the latest flagship device.
