External appearance remains unchanged

The new device uses the same 7.7-inch square of aluminum as earlier versions. It stands 3.7 inches tall and retains the blocky form factor introduced in 2022.

Memory capacity increases significantly

The M5 Ultra supports up to 512GB of memory compared to the 128GB limit of the first generation. Data transfer speeds have also risen to 1.2TB per second, which is nearly 50 percent faster than the M3 Ultra.

Entry-level pricing has increased

Apple raised prices for most hardware in June due to rising memory costs. The entry-level Mac Studio with an M4 Max chip now starts at $2,499 instead of the previous $1,999.
