Standard CarPlay history and limits

The original CarPlay system launched in 2014 alongside iOS 7.1 to bring iPhone apps to vehicle dashboards. Drivers connect their phones via USB or wirelessly to access navigation, streaming, and messaging tools. This standard version remains widely available even as some manufacturers stop supporting it.

New Ultra capabilities and availability

CarPlay Ultra extends functionality beyond the infotainment screen to control additional aspects of the vehicle. The new system is highly customizable but is not yet widely available in cars. Experts expect to see this updated version appear in more vehicles soon.
