Hidden strings reveal new functions

A Reddit user named pdfu discovered specific code strings within the HomeView 27.2 build that describe a security camera mode. These hidden descriptions include options for live streaming, recording, and motion detection alongside privacy controls. The setup page explicitly states that the device can function as a security camera with HomeKit Secure Video.

Privacy indicators and notifications

The proposed feature would show an indicator light and play a sound whenever someone watches the feed or recording begins. Members of the home receive a notification every time settings for the Secure Video mode are changed. Users could customize detection rules based on whether they are home, away, or asleep.

Company has not confirmed plans

Apple has not officially announced these features or explained why they were not included at launch. The company has also not commented on the possibility of adding this functionality to its smart home hub soon.
