Android and Windows users can now join FaceTime calls via links
Apple allows non-iPhone users to join FaceTime video calls using a link sent from an Apple device.
Cross-platform joining is possible
Users with Android phones or Windows PCs can access FaceTime without owning an Apple device. An iPhone user must start the call and send an invitation link to others. The non-Apple participant opens this link in a web browser to enter their name.
Browser permissions are required
The web browser may ask for permission to use the camera and microphone before joining. Users must grant these permissions and tap the join button to connect. This process does not work if the non-Apple user tries to initiate the call.
Feature arrived in 2021
The ability to use FaceTime across different platforms became available with iOS 15 and macOS Monterey. Many people were unaware that this option existed for years after its release. Other apps like WhatsApp and Zoom remain alternatives, but FaceTime is pre-installed on Apple devices.
