Amazon ends use of secrecy deals

Matt Garman stated that Amazon Web Services no longer signs nondisclosure agreements with government bodies. He made this announcement while trying to counter widespread suspicion surrounding new data center projects. The CEO included this single sentence in a longer blog post addressing community concerns.

Activists cite lack of transparency

Environmental activist Erin Brockovich noted that transparency is the primary complaint regarding these facilities. She described a common pattern where permits are secured before projects are announced to the public. Local officials reportedly signed agreements before neighbors learned about the developments under consideration.

Moratoriums face across the nation

New York recently declared a one-year pause on permits for large data centers. Garman reported that more than 100 similar moratoriums are currently being considered across the United States. He warned that enacting these measures could cause long-term consequences for the country.
