Amazon unveils faster Fire TV Stick 4K with redesigned remote
Amazon introduced a new Fire TV Stick 4K and a redesigned remote control on Wednesday as part of its fall hardware refresh.
Performance improvements for streaming
The company states the new device allows users to start watching up to 40 percent faster than rival 4K streaming sticks. Amazon claims apps launch 35 percent more quickly on this updated hardware compared to similar priced competitors from other brands.
Physical design and charging
The new stick features a slimmer profile and can be directly charged via a television's USB port. This version replaces the older model with a different shape and curvature intended to make it easier to hold in the hand.
Remote control updates
The included remote no longer features a blue Alexa button, which has been replaced by a subtle black microphone button at the top right. The layout includes a home button that is tactile enough to feel in the dark and a dedicated button for adding favorites.
