Alibaba unveils new AI chip and plans massive model
Alibaba Group executives in Hangzhou announced a new artificial intelligence chip and plans to train a model with up to 10 trillion parameters on Tuesday.
New Chip Performance Claims
The company introduced the Zhenwu V900 AI chip, which executives describe as the most powerful in China. This new hardware reportedly delivers three times the performance of its predecessor model.
Model Parameter Targets
Chief Executive Eddie Wu stated that the firm intends to train an AI model containing between 5 trillion and 10 trillion parameters. Group Chairman Joe Tsai emphasized the company's goal to build full-stack capabilities for artificial superintelligence.
Cloud Capacity Goals
Leaders outlined a roadmap to expand Alibaba Cloud global data centre capacity to more than 20 gigawatts by 2032. The event took place at the annual Apsara Conference which runs through Thursday.
