Vicky Bennison documents Italian grandmothers preserving handmade pasta recipes across the country
London-based creator Vicky Bennison has interviewed over 500 senior women in Italy to record their traditional pasta-making techniques and life stories.
Invisible culinary figures gain visibility
Bennison started her YouTube channel in 2014 after noticing older generations were the only ones making pasta by hand. She realized these women were the cornerstone of Italian cuisine but remained unseen until she began highlighting them. The project brought millions of viewers into the kitchens of these nonne.
Channel growth and new book release
The channel went viral in August 2018 and now holds more than a million subscribers. Bennison has authored three cookbooks, with the newest titled Eat Everything published on September 8.
