Trinchera Reserve opens in Colorado after conservation efforts
Louis Bacon's Trinchera Reserve in southern Colorado opened to the public this summer following two decades of ecological restoration.

Land ownership and history
The property spans 172,000 acres within the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Conservation philanthropist Louis Bacon acquired the land in 2007 after it was previously owned by publisher Malcolm Forbes.
Ecological restoration work
Bacon's team of foresters and biologists preserved six ecological zones over nearly two decades. This work often involved collaboration with universities, environmental organizations, and government agencies.
Guest experience details
The lodge features 16 guest rooms and offers activities like fly fishing and mountain biking. Visitors can reach the site by flying to Denver and taking a regional flight to San Luis Valley Regional Airport.
