The Metropolitan Museum of Art held a cocktail event on Monday evening in New York to celebrate the start of construction for its new Modern and Contemporary art wing.

Project scope and funding
Architect Frida Escobedo will reimagining the southwest wing with over 70,000 square feet of new galleries. A limestone celosía structure will filter daylight across the façade while a new terrace overlooks Central Park.
Financial support for construction
Tony James stated that donors have already raised $670 million for the project. This amount exceeds the total budget required to build the new wing.
