Stella Ishii debuts her own collection at New York Fashion Week
Stella Ishii will present her label 6397 on the runway during New York Fashion Week this year.

Career background and agency work
Ishii moved from Yokohama to New York in 1997. She founded the fashion agency showroom The News three years later. Her label has existed since 2013 before this runway debut.
Design focus and studio setting
The collection features t-shirts and denim as part of a uniform dressing concept. Ishii works inside her sunlit SoHo studio with head of design Lizzie Owens. She states that the clothing must sell to be successful.
Influence from Rei Kawakubo
Ishii began her career as a translator for designer Rei Kawakubo. She cites Kawakubo's confidence and trust in instincts as radical examples. Ishii learned much from observing how the Japanese designer marched on.
