Emorys career before his own label

Tremaine Emory worked as a creative consultant for brands including Stüssy, Marc Jacobs, and Yeezy before launching Denim Tears. He also served briefly as the creative director at streetwear brand Supreme. His collaborations have included partnerships with Dior, Levi's, Ugg, artist David Hammons, and the late Virgil Abloh.

The meaning behind Denim Tears

Emory launched his label in 2019 to mark the 400th anniversary of enslaved people arriving in America. The brand name references cotton, the textile central to the history of slavery and Black suffering. His work consistently engages with race and politics through graphic T-shirts, embellished jeans, and workwear-style jackets.

Exhibition features inspiring artists

The show places Emory's pieces alongside works by Arthur Jafa, Hank Willis Thomas, and Hammons. This curation underscores the breadth of his references and how his fashion output converses with culture at large.
