Saint-Gervais-les-Bains promotes autumn hiking and spa visits near Mont Blanc
The town of Saint-Gervais-les-Bains in the French Alps is marketing its shoulder season with hiking trails and spa facilities during October.

Cog railway reaches high altitude
Visitors can reach Mont Lachat station at an altitude of 2,115 metres via the Tramway du Mont Blanc. This century-old cog railway has operated since 1909 and climbs steep slopes from Saint-Gervais-les-Bains. The line was originally intended to reach the summit of Mont Blanc but construction stopped due to war and funding issues.
Autumn scenery draws hikers
The region displays russet, gold and tawny tones as maples turn red and rowan trees bear crimson berries. Aiguille du Midi stands above the mountainside while the Bionnassay Glacier slips down the slope nearby. Chamonix valley receives soft autumnal sunshine on one side of the view from the station.
Resorts build summer credentials
Local resorts that once focused purely on winter sports now offer hiking and biking through flower-strewn meadows. The little spa town is positioned between Chamonix and Megève to take advantage of growing demand for off-peak escapes. Operators are marketing the shoulder season to meet this increasing interest in quieter travel options.
