Legacy brands face closures

Mosaic Brands, which owns Katies, Millers and Noni B, has collapsed in recent years. Other major names including Cue Clothing Co, Veronika Maine, Betts and Jeanswest have entered administration. Even the 188-year-old department store David Jones is reportedly reducing its physical presence.

New brands expand footprint

Princess Polly continues opening stores on the Gold Coast and in Brisbane despite the market turmoil. Brand executives say younger companies are entering the space while older retailers downsize their operations. Retail experts expect more e-commerce businesses to move into physical store locations.
