Monet Iris painting sets new French auction record at Sotheby’s Paris
Sotheby's sold Claude Monet's 'Iris' for a record price during an auction in Paris on Thursday.

Record sale breaks previous French total
The painting achieved a final price of 50 million euros, which converts to approximately 56.2 million dollars. This result surpasses the earlier record set by an Amedeo Modigliani work in 2010. The item was part of the Jeanne Schlumberger collection offered for sale.
Bidding war involved multiple participants
Six different collectors competed for the piece during a bidding session that lasted 45 minutes. Two bidders continued to compete for an additional 20 minutes before the final price was reached. The winning bid came from an Asian collector who placed the offer over the phone.
Auction house reports strong overall results
The entire evening sale achieved a total of 74.4 million euros across all lots. Three other paintings by Monet also sold during this event at Sotheby's Paris headquarters.
