Metropolitan Museum of Art shifts Spring 2027 fashion show to everyday items
The Metropolitan Museum of Art will host its Spring 2027 Costume Institute exhibition titled extraOrdinary: Fashion and the Poetics of the Everyday starting May 9.
Exhibition theme focuses on ordinary clothes
Andrew Bolton curates a display that examines how designers transform mundane objects into high fashion. The collection includes blue jeans, plain white T-shirts, and puffer coats alongside unusual materials like plastic. This pivot follows the cancellation of a planned retrospective for John Galliano.
Specific garments will be on view
Archival pieces feature Charles James from the 1930s and Brooke Shields wearing Calvin Klein denim. Junya Watanabe leather biker silhouettes and Matthieu Blazy designs for Bottega Veneta also appear in the lineup. The show presents between 200 and 230 items to the public.
