Meta releases new Ray-Ban Audio smart glasses without a camera
Meta has announced the release of new Ray-Ban Meta Audio smart glasses that feature no built-in camera in response to privacy concerns.

Design and battery life improvements
The new audio-only glasses weigh just 43 grams and are indistinguishable from ordinary Ray-Ban frames. They contain no battery, sensors, or technology running through the nose of the device. A single charge provides up to 12 hours of use, with an included case extending that to 48 hours.
Audio capabilities and call quality
Wearers can listen hands-free to music and podcasts while using the device. Meta states that calls taken with these glasses capture the user's voice more clearly than standard earbuds. The hardware allows users to talk directly to Meta's AI assistant without visual components.
Market response to privacy issues
The removal of the camera addresses backlash regarding covert filming of strangers, particularly women. This development follows the emergence of challenger brands like Even Realities and Lucyd that also avoid cameras. A large part of the population previously steered clear of smart glasses due to these surveillance fears.
