Culinary creative Mel Ng has launched an Instagram series showcasing behind-the-scenes kitchen stories in Hong Kong and abroad starting in October 2025.

Filming at The Diplomat bar

The 36-year-old creator filmed a video while working as a day stagiaire at The Diplomat cocktail bar in Central. A camera recorded her tossing a beef burger patty while founder John Nugent explained the ingredients to her.

Range of featured restaurants

Her account @melngtf now features content from traditional spots like Ha Ming Kee noodle shop to modern venues such as Salira in Jakarta. The series continues to highlight operations ranging from fish ball joints to Michelin-starred establishments.

Ng posted her first stagiaire video on October 2025 to begin the project. She has since staged in both local and international kitchens to tell culinary stories.
