Kozaburo Akasaka presents Spring 2027 Ready-to-Wear collection inspired by kintsugi
Designer Kozaburo Akasaka unveiled his Spring 2027 Ready-to-Wear collection at a show where he explored themes of repair and hybridized garments.
Opening coat features denim collaboration
The opening garment was a coat created by combining two deadstock denim pieces from the brand Evisu. Designer Kozaburo Akasaka stitched these separate items together using a pneumatic stapler to form one longer piece. This technique appeared in novel ways throughout the collection, including pants with spiraling seams and T-shirts made from multiple joined sections.
Silhouettes show seventies influence
Many denim styles displayed a slightly 1970s feel with higher waists and flared silhouettes. Some of these pieces included button closure details at the hem. Other items featured curved pockets and back yokes achieved through 3-D cutting methods.
Textiles use needle-punching process
Cotton flannels were manipulated with a needle-punching technique to create a fuzzy patina on the fabric. This same process was also used on a droopy blouson jacket within the lineup. Lightweight cotton shirting in a bandanna print and hoodies printed with Peace on Earth rounded out the highlights.
