James Turrell Unveils New Miami-Inspired Ganzfeld Installation at Superblue
Artist James Turrell opened a new light and space installation called Blue Sea Sky at the Superblue gallery in Miami.
Installation Replaces Previous Work
The new commission takes the place of AKHU, which inaugurated the institution in 2021. This latest piece is part of Turrell's famed Ganzfeld series that uses uniform fields of light to challenge viewer perception.
Colors Modeled After Local Environment
Designers drew aquatic blues from the nearby sea and faded them into palm greens. The palette also includes peachy sunset oranges and pinks inspired by neon signs and Art Deco architecture around the city.
Effect Overwhelms Sense of Distance
White rooms soak viewers in light that overwhelms their perception of depth and distance. Subtle shifts in hue create surreal experiences regarding reality within the space.
