Huguette Caland retrospective opens at Hammer Museum in Los Angeles
The Hammer Museum in Los Angeles presents the first stateside retrospective of Huguette Caland's work through February 28, 2027.
Early life and artistic delay
Caland grew up in Lebanon during the 1940s while her father served as the country's first president. She delayed painting until age 33 after her father died from cancer in 1964. Her grief led her to create Red Sun, a canvas originally titled Cancer.
Exhibition scope and timeline
The show displays pieces from her five-decade practice that range from landscapes to amorphous body renderings. These works are currently on view at the Hammer Museum until February 28, 2027.
