Michelin ends the Green Star

The city's Michelin guide stopped giving out the Green Star award. The company replaced the badge with an editorial platform called Mindful Voices without explaining the change to chefs.

New rules require verification

European Union anti-greenwashing laws took effect on September 27 and demand independent checks for sustainability labels. Michelin's previous self-reported process could not meet these new standards for public companies.

Local groups offer alternatives

Hong Kong's Beam Plus F&B and the UK's Sustainable Restaurant Association now provide new certification options. These models aim to be rigorous while remaining inclusive and commercially practical for local businesses.
