Veronica Leoni at Calvin Klein focused on stripping away superfluous design elements to reach a necessary aesthetic. One pair featured a wickerlike base that wrapped around the toe and heel with thin laces extending up the ankle. This construction left very little of the foot covered while maintaining a simplified silhouette.
Other brands adopt exposed styles
Proenza Schouler showed stiletto heels where the shoe appeared to cling on by straps around the toe and heel. Rachel Scott presented multiple iterations of these designs specifically within the context of eveningwear. At Area, Nicholas Aburn debuted a pair that resembled a lace-trimmed nude sock with an invisible structure.

Designers throughout New York Fashion Week found new ways to reduce footwear coverage and expose more of the foot. The collection included simplified blazers and slip dresses that matched the austere approach seen in the shoes.
