The attack and initial injury

Mortley, who was sixteen years old, had just finished a street festival when he was directed down a specific street. A group of boys waited there and struck him while he ran around a car. He felt the blow to his back and saw three boys flashing knives behind him.

Emergency response at the venue

The teenager entered a nearby pub and went straight to the toilet where blood was gushing from his wound. He told the woman behind the bar that he had been stabbed before she asked him to sit down. Paramedics eventually arrived after he was moved upstairs and downstairs within the building.

Medical treatment and recovery

Emergency workers began cutting his clothes off to treat the severe bleeding on his back. Mortley later realized the attackers had set him up by a friend during this ambush. He survived the incident but lost his love of food for a time before regaining it.
