Chanel sponsors Opéra Garnier gala while venue faces major renovation
Chanel and Rolex sponsored the opening ballet gala at the Paris Opéra Garnier on Saturday night as the historic building prepares for a five-year closure.

Gala honors tradition and modernity
The evening began with a procession featuring dancers in tutus and diadems created by Chanel. Performers ranged from young trainees to senior stars like Dorothée Gilbert, who will perform her final show this Thursday. Later acts included new costumes designed by Matthieu Blazy for the piece Rings of Saturn.
Funding supports upcoming repairs
The event raised 1.8 million euros to help finance the construction work scheduled to begin in July. During this period, ballet companies will stage productions at the Opéra Bastille instead of the main hall. The total cost for the project is estimated at some 450 million euros.
