Temba Bavuma scores career-best 179 to help South Africa dominate Australia
South Africa captain Temba Bavuma scored a Test-best 179 on the third day of the second cricket test against Australia at St George's Park in Gqeberha.

Bavuma leads historic recovery
The Proteas moved from 40-4 to a declaration of 425 for nine after rain affected the first two days. Bavuma remained not out at 179, which was his highest Test score and his fifth century in 54 matches. Marco Jansen added 85 runs while Simon Harmer contributed 82 in lower-order partnerships.
Australia struggles in reply
Kagiso Rabada took a wicket with the fourth ball of the Australian innings as Nic Maddinson was caught at third slip. Australia were three down for one run when play ended on Tuesday evening. The hosts have reduced the visitors to 3-1 while trailing by 422 runs in their first innings.
Conditions and injuries noted
Australia could not field seamer Josh Hazlewood during the first session because he was serving a penalty for illness. The match resumed after wet weather delayed play on Monday and Tuesday. South Africa faced scrutiny earlier in the series but have now taken control of the second test.
