Shin Ohashi breaks world record in men’s 200m breaststroke at Asian Games
Seventeen-year-old Japanese swimmer Shin Ohashi set a new world record in the men's 200m breaststroke at the Asian Games in Tokyo while recovering from Covid-19.
Illness led to faster time
The teenager finished the race in two minutes four point eight three seconds. This performance improved on the previous mark held by China's Qin Haiyang since July 2023. Ohashi stated that the illness forced him to rest his body properly before competing.
Second gold medal of event
This victory marked his second win at the Games after he shared the title in the 100m breaststroke. He will attempt a third gold medal on Friday in the 50m breaststroke final.
