Seven nations including India and Qatar seek to host 2036 Olympics
The International Olympic Committee confirmed seven countries are in preliminary talks to stage the 2036 Summer Games.

Interested parties identified by IOC
India, Germany, Qatar, Hungary, Turkey, South Africa and South Korea have expressed interest in hosting the event. The International Olympic Committee announced this list on Tuesday. A shortlist will be drawn up in March next year before strategic dialogues begin.
Athletes remain central to future hosts
IOC President Kirsty Coventry stated that athletes must always be at the heart of everything done for the Games. She emphasized that delivering the best possible experience for them is the starting point for every future host. This principle applies regardless of which nation eventually secures the contract.
Timeline and assessment criteria set
Other countries have until October 31 to declare their interest in hosting the competition. The IOC Executive Board will review factors such as funding, political support and public backing in March 2027. India aims to host its first Olympics while Qatar seeks to become the first Muslim-majority nation to do so.
