Chaos ended the match early

The final in Rabat descended into disorder deep into stoppage time. Senegal believed Ismaila Sarr had scored a winner before the referee blew for a Moroccan free-kick. A penalty was awarded to Morocco after a VAR review in the 98th minute.

Players protested the outcome

Senegal coach Pape Thiaw led some of his players off the pitch during the controversy. The Confederation of African Football subsequently stripped Senegal of their trophy nine months ago. Both nations are now waiting for a legal resolution to determine the champion.
