Lisandro Martinez criticises Man Utd board after Champions League defeat
Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez criticised the club's hierarchy and technical director Jason Wilcox following a 2-0 loss to Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, 13 October 2026.
Defender demands squad investment
Martinez stated that the team expects more players to compete after finishing third in the previous Premier League season. He specifically called for greater investment from the top and directed his comments at technical director Jason Wilcox. The defender noted that many other teams bring many players while United failed to improve options in key areas.
Recent form remains poor
The 2-0 defeat by Atletico Madrid means the club has now gone five games without a win this season. Their last victory came against Sabah FK on 10 September, and their only other win was against Ipswich at Old Trafford. Martinez acknowledged that Atletico deserved to win but argued the squad must be ready for such nights.
