Dominant performance at Austin event

The 20-year-old Italian driver secured his ninth victory of the 2026 season with a pole position start. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff described the result as exceptional and noted that Antonelli outperformed his car. His teammate George Russell finished eighth despite receiving a five-second penalty during the race.

Conditions for securing world crown

Antonelli needs just two points in the upcoming Mexico Grand Prix to become the youngest champion in history. He will also be the first Italian driver to win the title since Alberto Ascari in 1953. The championship is effectively won unless his rivals finish higher than expected in the next event.
