Kimi Antonelli wins Spanish Grand Prix after Lando Norris loses out to virtual safety car timing

Norris loses position after pit stop

McLaren driver Lando Norris was leading comfortably from pole position when the virtual safety car was called on lap 15. The timing of the caution period prevented him from pitting immediately because he had already passed the pit exit. Antonelli and Max Verstappen were able to complete their stops while Norris continued at reduced speed.

Antonelli extends championship lead

Kimi Antonelli secured his eighth victory of the season to increase his title advantage by 81 points over George Russell. Lewis Hamilton retired early from the race due to brake failure, finishing ahead of Norris only in fifth place. The Italian driver stated that the win did not feel as good because Norris deserved to take the victory.
