Kimi Antonelli wins Spanish GP at Madring after Norris pit stop issues

Norris loses track position

McLaren driver Lando Norris led comfortably from pole position until lap 15 when a virtual safety car was deployed. The timing of the caution period meant Norris had already passed the pit exit before the order came in. He could not return to the pits immediately, allowing Kimi Antonelli and Max Verstappen to complete their stops while he remained on track.

Antonelli takes victory

Kimi Antonelli finished first to claim his eighth win of the 2026 season. Norris recovered only enough to finish third after a slow stop dropped him into fifth place before he rejoined the race. Max Verstappen secured second place while Lewis Hamilton retired early due to brake failure.

Championship standings update

Antonelli increased his lead in the world championship to 81 points ahead of teammate George Russell. He is now 101 points clear of Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton who did not finish the race. The result marks Antonelli's first victory at the new Madrid street circuit.
