Match outcome and physical struggle

Burrage lost a three-set match against India's Vaishnavi Adkar after leading 5-3 in the final set. She called a doctor during play due to humid conditions and had her blood pressure checked before resuming. The British player eventually fell to a 7-5 defeat after losing four consecutive games.

Source of online hostility

Burrage stated that most of the abuse comes from tennis gamblers who lost money on her match. She shared screenshots of abusive messages on social media with a caption noting she remembered why she left the tour.

WTA response and support measures

The WTA offered additional support including staff on the ground in Chennai to assist Burrage directly. The organization is using its Threat Matrix service to report abuse to platforms and identify those responsible for the threats.
