Fifa president Gianni Infantino proposes external review of governance

Letter to council members

Infantino sent a letter to the Fifa Council and all 211 member association presidents on Monday. He asked the Council whether it wishes to commission an independent external review of the current governance framework. The review aims to recommend potential improvements for major strategic initiatives.

Consultation with stakeholders

The president also said he would propose consultations with confederations and other stakeholders. These discussions will focus on strengthening decision-making and improving transparency. Proposals will examine the respective roles of the president, Bureau, Council and Congress.

Context of investment plan

Infantino acknowledged that handling a now-abandoned investment plan had caused concern among members. The proposal involved selling a stake in commercial rights to private investors before it became public. He stated the plan did not involve relinquishing control over sporting decisions.
