Workplace AI adoption remains slow and informal according to new survey
A survey of 1,105 employees in May 2026 found that workplace AI use is still informal and uneven across organizations.
Adoption rates rise slightly but stay low
The proportion of workers using AI at work increased from 35 percent to 38 percent compared with the previous year. This slight increase suggests that widespread integration has not yet occurred despite high public interest in generative technology.
Employees drive usage rather than employers
Only 55 percent of users reported that their most frequent AI tool was officially introduced by their employer. Consequently, many staff members are gaining hands-on experience through personal initiative while companies struggle with governance and training.
Organizations lag behind in policy
Florian Kunze of the University of Konstanz noted that employers are still catching up on secure infrastructure. The study indicates that the AI revolution is not unfolding as a planned transformation process for many firms.
