Global warming target at risk

A recent UN report stated the 1.5C target would likely be breached within the next few years. Experts say urgent and stringent action is needed to return the world to that limit. The agreement aims to keep temperature rises well below 2.0C above pre-industrial times.

US withdrawal details confirmed

The United States, the second biggest greenhouse gas emitter, officially withdrew from the deal in January 2026. This follows a previous departure during Donald Trump's first presidency before rejoining under President Joe Biden in 2021. Iran, Libya and Yemen remain the only other UN members outside the agreement.
