Historical roots of space work

Ottoman astronomer Takiyuddin established the Istanbul Observatory in 1577. The facility included mechanical clocks and an armillary sphere for measuring celestial movements. Inventor Lagari Hasan Celebi is recorded as having flown a rocket over the Bosphorus in 1633.

Modern satellite operations continue

Turksat operates a satellite and space museum named after Lagari Hasan Celebi. The state-owned operator manages facilities that evolved from early flight experiments to current satellite technology.

Global community gathers in Antalya

The event brings the country's space program before the global space community. This gathering marks the first time the congress has been held in this location.
