Farmers exposed to harmful chemicals

Many French farmers sprayed pesticides they were told were harmless for decades. José Nadan, a beekeeper in Morbihan, treated his orchard with a product sales reps claimed was safe enough to drink. He sprayed from his tractor without precautions because he believed the chemicals had no effect on humans.

Health fears grow among victims

Victims and doctors state that ending safety reviews could keep harmful products on the market longer. Many of these farmers have since fallen ill with cancers and other diseases caused by exposure. Scientists argue that current regulations need to remain in place to protect public health.
