Restoration work begins at New Forest wildfire site
Forestry England has started long-term restoration projects at the New Forest location where a wildfire destroyed over one square kilometre of land on 9 August.

Damage to rare habitats
Specialist teams are now working to protect vulnerable areas ahead of winter. They will also reseed sections of heather that were lost during the blaze. The fire removed surface plants and destroyed underground root systems and seed banks.
Road closure and costs
The A31 route between Hampshire and Dorset remained closed for nearly two weeks at its height. Fire services estimate the total cost of fighting the blaze reached £600,000.
