Researchers urge national consortium to fight agriculture cyber threats
Washington State University researchers published a recommendation in Nature Food for a national Agriculture Cybersecurity Consortium to address growing digital risks.

Call for distributed security partnership
The co-authors urged the creation of a geographically distributed consortium based on strong partnerships with farms and government. This recommendation follows three regionally coordinated workshops involving more than 150 stakeholders.
Risks from digitization and AI
Ananth Kalyanaraman noted that increased digitization of agricultural data makes cybersecurity guarantees more important. Monowar Hasan added that the workshops revealed many people underestimate these specific cybersecurity risks in agriculture.
Stakeholders involved in workshops
Participants included agribusiness, cooperatives, cybersecurity businesses, NGOs and academia alongside land-grant universities. The group aims to study and combat threats against American food systems through this new structure.
