Scientists at TU Wien and partner universities in Austria are constructing a new microscope that combines an electron microscope with a quantum computer.

Standard systems mainly count electrons to build images while ignoring their quantum data. The new approach connects the microscope to a quantum computer to process this extra information. Researchers hope this method extracts more useful details from each electron.
Reducing damage to delicate materials
The device aims to reveal faint structures using fewer electrons than conventional systems require. This reduction in exposure helps protect biological materials that are easily damaged by standard microscopy. A prototype based on this concept is currently under construction at TU Wien.
