Researchers identify molecular bridge linking two pollen signaling pathways in Arabidopsis
A team led by Emi Ito and Takashi Ueda at the National Institute for Basic Biology discovered a protein connecting two small GTPase pathways in Arabidopsis thaliana.

New pathway connects plant switches
The study reveals a previously unknown signaling route involving RAB5, REAP1/SWAP70, and ROP7. This mechanism links intracellular membrane trafficking with cell morphogenesis processes. The discovery addresses how crosstalk between small GTPase families occurs in plants.
Role in pollen development
The new pathway plays an important role in normal pollen development within the model plant. Researchers published these findings in the journal Nature Plants. Collaborators from Ochanomizu University and other institutions contributed to the work.
