Researchers find little known about AI impact on young students
A study published in the Journal of Information Technology Education: Research analyzed international articles on how generative artificial intelligence affects younger school children.

Hilde Storrøsæter from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology led a review of 173 research articles. The team examined how generative AI tools like chatbots influence critical thinking and independent problem solving in pupils. Researchers concluded that solid knowledge regarding these impacts remains very limited.
Developmental concerns raised
The study notes that this lack of information is problematic because the influence occurs while children are still developing. Storrøsæter stated that it is striking how little we understand about effects on basic skills in younger pupils.
