Researchers create room-temperature multiferroic heterostructure using stacked 2D materials
Scientists at the University of Maryland and other institutes demonstrated a method to create stable, ultrathin multiferroics that function at room temperature.

New approach for 2D materials
Researchers successfully synthesized van der Waals heterostructures that exhibit both ferromagnetic and ferroelectric orders simultaneously. This achievement overcomes previous difficulties in achieving long-range ferroic orders within two-dimensional systems. The resulting structure allows engineers to alter magnetic behavior by applying small electric voltages.
