Music professor loses pitch ability

David Loberg Code, a music professor with absolute pitch, found his skill dropped while working in Norway. He could no longer identify or sing specific pitches as reliably as he did back in Michigan. Researchers noted this change happened after he arrived in the European country.

Team collects global audio data

Guo and his colleagues gathered sound recordings from kitchens, living rooms, and railway stations worldwide. They also used video to track how people moved inside those same spaces. The team is using machine-learning algorithms to analyze these collected files.

Indoor environments may differ

The researchers are investigating whether indoor settings in Europe create different acoustic conditions than elsewhere. They suspect these subtle differences might explain why Code's ability changed so quickly. Further study is needed to confirm if location causes such shifts in human perception.
