Queen’s University Belfast students travel to Florida for NASA robotics competition
A team of ten Queen's University Belfast engineering students is travelling to Florida later this month to compete in a NASA lunabotics event.

Team composition and preparation
The group won an earlier contest before being invited to the main event. They brought a lab-built robot designed to dig lunar material and drive over obstacles. The team split into three groups handling software, electronics, and mechanical tasks.
Competition location and rivals
They will face university teams from Australia, India, and the United States at the University of Central Florida. The event tests how well the robots can operate using NASA systems engineering processes. Participants aim to build walls from the material their machines collect.
Student goals for the trip
Jack Fitzpatrick, a PhD student in mechanical engineering, expressed excitement about the invitation. The students hope their design will perform well during future moon missions. Jamie Smith led the software team to provide autonomous capabilities for the rover.
