Rescue conditions upon arrival

The animals arrived in poor physical condition after suffering burns and malnutrition during the fires. Workers carried them in cages suspended from poles through steep and slippery terrain to reach their destination.

Health checks before release

Staff nursed the group back to health over several weeks of feeding and care. A final health check confirmed that three mothers were pregnant again prior to opening their cages.

Return to the wild

The pair of a female and her baby climbed trees immediately after entering the protected area. All nine apes, including four mother-young pairs, fled the enclosures and returned to the canopy safely.
