New research warns AI cannot fix Britain’s supply chains without better foundations
Researchers from the University of East London and the University of Hertfordshire published a study in Benchmarking: An International Journal stating that artificial intelligence will not solve supply chain problems unless businesses first improve their data, skills, and management systems.

The study examined more than 500 academic studies published over the last decade regarding big data use in business operations. Dr Godfried Adaba noted that sophisticated technology has little value if the information is not trusted or understood by decision makers. Businesses must have reliable data and capable people before investing in advanced tools like cloud computing or the Internet of Things.
Management systems matter most
Experts warn that simply buying the latest AI does not guarantee better results for companies facing disruptions. The researchers found that clear management systems are required to turn information into effective decisions quickly. Without fixing weaknesses in these areas first, investment in artificial intelligence risks being wasted.
